Trees and shrubs provide the building blocks to form and function in your landscape.
They can direct you down a certain path, provide privacy between you and a busy street (or a busy neighbor), and give shade at just the right time in the afternoon.
Despite all the benefits that trees and shrubs can give, many homeowners aren’t confident about how to use them. WATCH OUR BASIC PLANTING GUIDE
Trees and shrubs are often categorized as deciduous or evergreen. Deciduous plants start their growth in early spring, stay full and lush through summer, and usually change color and drop their leaves in the fall, remaining bare through the winter. Evergreen plants add year-round beauty as they keep their leaves all year long. Vines are much like flexible shrubs that grow taller and longer by climbing and creeping, depending on how you train them to behave.
Not sure about how much sun you have? Take note of the direction your sun is coming from at any given time in the day. Then measure the length of time the sun rests on the location you are trying to beautify. We suggest full sun perennials to anyone with six hours or more of direct sunlight, and recommend shade-loving perennials to individuals with less than three hours of sunlight. Everyone in between should be looking for a perennial marked as loving part-sun/shade.

Here’s a list of perennials that are salt tolerant, wetland tolerant, and deer & rabbit resistant!
