GREEN GOODS NURSERY BUYER


The Green Goods Nursery Buyer to be responsible for selecting and purchasing quality products for Logan’s Retail Store. 

To be successful in this role, the Green Goods Nursery Buyer will research, select and purchase quality products and materials, process purchase orders, negotiate with supply vendors, track orders, develop and maintain the nursery inventory, ensure quality and act as the liaison between the accounting, inventory, and management teams. The individual will partner with the team supervisor to forecast the needs of the business and make purchase decisions based on demand. The Green Goods Nursery Buyer should be analytically minded and possess excellent negotiating skills to secure the best prices according to budget. 


Essential Duties and Functions

  • Source high quality plants and materials in an effort to purchase the best possible product for our guests. 
  • Develop and maintain relationships with supply vendors, negotiating terms of agreements to achieve the best deal for our company. 
  • Oversee deliveries, receiving, processing, pricing, stocking, and marketing of plants into the nursery that maximizes productivity and teamwork. 
  • Partner with team supervisor to ensure maximum quality and availability of merchandise by maintaining inventories. 
  • Ensure all products and displays are merchandised effectively to maximize sales and profitability. 
  • Address customer inquiries promptly and professionally and ensure customer satisfaction. 
  • Maintain awareness of market trends in the green industry, understanding forthcoming customer initiatives and monitoring what local competitors are doing.


Preferred Education and Experience

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent
  • At least 5 years of retail buyer, managerial experience 
  • Prior experience working at a Garden Center, Wholesale Nursery or Production Nursery

Requirements

  • Extensive knowledge of perennials, trees and shrubs. 
  • Proven experience as a garden center buyer.
  • Knowledge of sales and marketing principles.
  • Prior customer service experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to set department objectives and take measured steps toward the achievement of each one. 
  • Ability to stay focused on priorities in a fast-paced environment. 
  • Ability to take ownership in collaborating with other departments to achieve organizational goals.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills. 
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel, and retail point of sales system. 


Supervisory Responsibilities

  • This position has no supervisory responsibilities


Work Environment

  • This job operates in a professional retail, outdoor environment. The employee will be expected to work outside in various kinds of weather.
  • This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers/scanners, filing cabinets etc.


Physical Demands

  • The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
  • This position requires the ability to regularly lift products and supplies, up to 25 pounds.
  • The employee must have the ability to lift up to 40 pounds and be able to maneuver between greenhouse tables.
  • This position requires the ability to sit and stand for long periods of time.


Position Type

Full-Time 


Expected Hours of Work

Peak Season (March – June; October – December): 50 hours per week 


Off Peak Season: 40 hours per week 


Saturdays are required. 


Travel

Occasional travel may be expected for this position.
